New air weapons licensing laws came into force on 31 December 2016 (10 days ago). From that date it has been an offence to own or use an air weapon without a licence, unless you are exempt. Anyone found guilty of this offence could be fined or jailed for up to 2 years.
It has been possible to apply to Police Scotland for an air weapons licence since July 2016. If you hold an existing firearms or shotgun licence you will not need to get a new one until your existing licence is due for renewal, unless you obtain a new gun before that time.
The forms to apply for licenses are available below, it’s adviced while applications are being processed you make arrangements to have your air weapons kept with another certificate holder or with a registered firearms dealer as posession or use is still illegal.
